As I gazed out the window and took this photo during an airline flight earlier this year, I was reminded that we're all on a planet in space.

It sounds a little weird to say, but it's important to remember...because a lot is changing, not only in our own backyards but around the world.

Some of those changes are environmental. That's why I volunteer as board chair of the Maryland nonprofit Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake. Please consider supporting them.

We're facing other kinds of changes, too. Which is one reason I'm interested in photography: It's a great way to develop the ability to pay attention, to notice, to grasp with our brains what our eyes are seeing.
